Then Africa happened.
What began as a fascination with African crime fiction soon evolved into writing it. He started with a few short stories for practice. This turned out to be a tactical error. It escalated into a novel. Soon an entire series had appeared and was making demands for new victims, detectives, and paperwork.
While his books are set in South Africa, readers should not mistake geography for exclusivity. Human trafficking, exploitation, corruption, and institutional negligence are not African inventions. On the contrary, they merely wear different clothes in different countries.
He is currently working on the next novel and remains optimistic that reality will eventually stop providing plot material.
His time is divided between writing, reading, and pretending to understand what his characters will do next.
